Long Street
An 8-storey student accommodation project
The project incorporates bespoke folded perforated gold anodised aluminium screens and unique GRC columns and spandrel panels, all applied to the unitised curtain walling.
The unitised curtain walling panels were factory manufactured and delivered to site fully glazed. Lifted with the tower crane, these were then installed onto the brackets fixed to the concrete frame. Both the perforated screens and GRC were fitted to the units on site.
The perforated screens were installed on to the units prior to lifting onto the building, whist the GRC cladding was attached to the unitised cladding after installation.
With these factors, the watertight date could be significantly reduced and fit out could commence early, making sure the programme could be met.
Manufactured in Lithuania the units were rapidly transported to site for installation as soon as the frame was ready and the brackets installed.
The speed of erection of unitised curtain walling being about 5 times that of stick systems and the reduced number of operatives required were both significant advantages in the construction.
Once installed the GRC panels could be lifted into place and hooked onto the brackets built into the unitised system.
