65 Davies Street
A carbon-conscious development in Mayfair
Located in Mayfair above the Elizabeth Line’s Bond Street station, 65 Davies Street stands seven storeys and provides 65,000 ft of commercial space, integrating gracefully with the station infrastructure below. The project’s long timeline, set to coincide with the completion of the Elizabeth Line allowed for ambitious environmental standards, with energy usage targeted at less than half that allowed by the current building codes. The project team was committed to applying science-based targets for carbon reduction.
The façade of 65 Davie Street is complex, with materials carefully chosen to harmonise with neighbouring buildings. An arrangement of terracotta, stone and bronze is fenestrated with large, glazed units.
The façade is recessed on the upper stories to provide terrace space and soften the building’s massing from the street. The development is crowned with a copper standing seam roof, which encompasses the building plant.
An aspect of carbon reduction was achieved by incorporating landscaping across the building, particularly the multi-storey green trellis on the south façade.
Interface provided a client monitoring role to the developer Grosvenor, reviewing construction drawing details and technical documentation to ensure that the façade construction aligned with specifications. We carried out factory visits to review the production of the unitised façade panels and were closely involved in testing – witnessing on-site hose tests, visual mock-up (VMU) tests and performance mock-up (PMU) tests.
The design process began in 2007, and work was completed in 2023.
