Facade engineering is an intensely technical field and combines a diverse range of building engineering skills and knowledge. The nature of this specialist discipline dictates high level expertise in design, engineering, cladding systems and evolving technologies.
Learning, improving knowledge and continuous professional development (CPD) is an important culture that is promoted here at interface, and this summer all of our Interface team members are attending specific Centre for Window and Cladding Technology (CWCT) courses.
During the summer season the CWCT run refresher courses on facade topics, including structural performance, thermal and moisture performance, fire and acoustics.
We also encourage in-house learning, so each team member will relay what they have learnt to everyone here during our Monday learning sessions.
These sessions are held every week on various facade-related topics and discussion areas. This week we spoke about ‘Lessons Learned’ on one of our recent completed projects, and the week previous we explored findings from a recent cladding contractor factory visit, including the glass viewing criteria and our bespoke reporting software.
Next week is our session on the curtain walling design and construction course, and the week following we will review the fire performance course and have an open forum on the very latest industry guidance as well as preparing input into the latest government consultation papers, which we do via the Society of Facade Engineering.
