New landmark in the City of London
The 39-storey office building in the City of London has been designed by Allies and Morrison with two distinct facades. To the north and south, the facades include an inclined curtain walling system with fold line detailing. To the east and west, the external vertical and horizontal anodised aluminium fins dominate the elevation creating depth to the envelope.
Interface provided a client monitoring role to the developer Brookfield, including providing comment on the cladding contractor proposals, attendance at design reviews, attendance at testing in China and production reviews. Our role also included factory visits and an on-site role for the installation.
The unitised curtain walling has been designed with the outer glass pane of the DGU oversailing the stack joint, reducing the apparent spandrel zone. The fold lines are being manufactured as cranked units taking the geometry challenges into the factory and away from site.
The grand ground floor has a bespoke stainless steel curtain walling system spanning the double height spaces. The system has to be able to accommodate significant movements induced by the tower whilst maintaining a slender appearance.
Testing and manufacturing of the system was completed in China with Yuanda. Installation commenced in 2017, with the building completion in 2020.
In 2022, the project deservedly won a London RIBA Award. Read more about the award.
